Garuda Purana is a Sanskrit text of Hinduism. It is believed to have been written by sage Valmiki in Sanskrit. The Puranas are part of the Smriti literature, which are authoritative sources for Hinduism though they are not considered sacred scriptures. The term "Purana" means "ancient" or "ancient tradition"
It appears that Garuda Purana was composed in the late Vedic period in India, during the reign of the Hindu god Vishnu.
